2025 Recap

2025 was another sweet year caring for mothers and babies in South Mississippi.

We had the great honor of attending the births of 19 Babies - 12 boys and 7 girls.

4 of those babies were born to first time mamas, 5 were second babies, 7 were thirds, 1 was a fourth baby, 1 was a fifth, and 1 was a seventh baby.

Average birth weight was 8lbs 6oz. Our biggest baby was 10lb 4oz and our smallest was 6lb 12oz. Our longest baby (who was also our biggest) was 22.75 inches long and our shortest baby was 19.25 inches long.

The average gestation at the time of delivery was 40 weeks + 4 days. Our earliest baby was born at 38 weeks + 5 days, and our latest baby was born at 41 weeks + 6 days.

We had mamas ranging in age from 43 to 21 years old, with the average age of our clients being 29 years old.

Our clients had an average of 11 prenatal appointments lasting around 60 minutes each, meaning that they each had close to 700 minutes face to face with their Midwife prior to delivery!

This year we had 3 Hospital Transfers in the Intrapartum Period:

  • One transfer during labor for fetal tachycardia (abnormal fetal heart rate) that resulted in a very medically necessary cesarean delivery.

  • One maternal transfer for postpartum hemorrhage.

  • One newborn transfer for labored breathing.

All transfers were smooth (thank you, Forrest General L&D Unit!), and everyone was stable during the transfer process. Midwife Amanda called the hospital prior to transfer and gave report, sent medical records ahead of time, and accompanied all families to the hospital.

We didn't have any mothers risk out of care with us prenatally again this year, so all mothers who began pregnancy with us were able to continue care through delivery and through the first 6 weeks postpartum!

Midwife Amanda also had the privilege of serving women and share the Gospel in Uganda in January 2025 with Ddembe Ministries. She and a team taught Women's Health/Childbirth Classes to almost 1,000 people, and Amanda did prenatal exams on over 50 women, most of whom didn't have access to care. Amanda hopes to go back to Uganda to serve women in 2027!

Hattiesburg Midwifery is committed to keeping a very low client volume - only taking 2-3 clients per month - so that we can give our clients top tier, individualized, wholisitic care, while also caring for our own families well. We can't wait to see what God has for us in 2026!
